Pine Grove Road has been seeing increased wear and tear to the pavement resulting in a rough road surface with a high maintenance demand. The Pine Grove Road Reconstruction Project will be a full replacement of the existing pavement section from US 40 to Mount Werner Drive. The project goals also include construction of sidewalks, replacement of aging storm sewers and a pedestrian crossing linking the transit stops near Angels View Way. Project goals are to improve rideability and lifetime of Pine Grove Road Asphalt and to improve multi-modal transportation and connectivity and safety.

The city has partnered with KLJ Engineering for the design of the project. The design for the project is anticipated to be complete by July of 2024. Construction will begin in the summer of 2025 upon a selection of a contractor. The Project will be over completed over 2 construction seasons through two phases of construction. Phase 1 includes the area from US 40 to approximately Central Park Drive. Phase 2 from approximately Central Park Drive to Mount Werner Road. Phase 1 construction is planned for the summer of 2025 and Phase 2 is planned for the summer of 2026.

Phase 1 Extends From Pine Grove Rd/US40 Intersection to Central Park Drive

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-June DRAFT, 2025-The city is set to begin critical public infrastructure upgrades to Pine Grove Road, one of the community’s most heavily traveled and relied-upon corridors on Monday, June 23, 2025.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we carry out this important project,” said City Engineer Matt Phillips, PE. “These improvements will make Pine Grove Road safer, more durable, and more accessible for everyone who lives, works, or travels through this area.”

Construction on Phase 1 of the Pine Grove Road Improvement Project will begin June 23 and continue through the last week of October. Phase 1 of the project will extend from the Highway 40 intersection to approximately 250 feet past the Central Park Drive intersection.

The project, awarded to Giovonni Construction, will deliver a series of roadway, pedestrian, and safety enhancements designed to improve long-term functionality and travel experience for all users. Key benefits of the project include:

    • Roadway Reconstruction: A new asphalt surface and strengthened road base will significantly improve drivability and extend the life of the roadway.
    • New Sidewalks: Sidewalks will be installed along the front of many properties, providing better pedestrian connectivity throughout the corridor.
    • Enhanced Bus Stop: A bus stop near Angels View Way will receive safety upgrades, including a pedestrian-activated crossing signal to help transit riders cross safely.
    • Drainage Improvements: New stormwater infrastructure will be installed to improve drainage and reduce the risk of roadway flooding.

Construction will begin with work along the edges of the roadway, then progress toward the center. The most significant impacts to vehicle traffic are expected mid-to-late summer, when lane closures and detours may be required. Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians are encouraged to plan ahead and follow all posted signage.

Plan accordingly and allow for additional travel time during the construction period as well as consider alternative routes. Residents, businesses, and commuters can stay informed throughout the project through regular updates posted on the city’s website and shared through local media and social channels.
