Western Heritage is Unique to Steamboat verses other Ski Areas in Colorado. We need to Keep Romick Arena and all the Rodeo Activities .
Steamboat would be just another ski area in Colorado if they continue to eliminate it's Western Heritage. Steamboat should continue to embrace what makes it special and unique. The Rodeos on the weekends, and Gymkhana on Thursday nights help keep the Heritage alive for tourists and Steamboat youth.

Develop Howelson into an Olympic Training Center/after school program
Continue to develop Howelson Hill into a promising center for young athletes to develop their skills, leadership, and Legacy. Allow the athletes to have the same chance that previous athletes had. At the same time build better infrastructure around the park to offer costs and draw more tourists to the hill. Howelson Hill is a safe place for the kids to go and keeps them from danger and the temptation of trouble.

Create a separate Recreational tax district to fund Howelsen
Rather than funding Howelsen out of the City Sales tax coffers, establish a separate property tax district to fund all city recreational facilities. Or if not that, a property transfer tax dedicated to Howelsen. I suspect a big reason Howelsen 'loses' money for the city is all the indirect costs that are loaded onto it. The facilities issue relates directly to the city's lack of maintenance funding over the last 10 years. As the Steamboat grows and recreational demand increases for both residents and visitors, you can't continue to fund this operation off sales tax dollars.

2040 vision should include multi-purpose gym/fieldhouse
Regarding the 20-year vision for the entire Howelsen Park complex, I hope there is a multi-purpose indoor gymnasium that can be used year-round to support both indoor & outdoor sports with basketball courts, volleyball courts, indoor soccer, and early spring baseball among so many others. Our city is regrettably very short on available gym space. A multi-purpose fieldhouse would be a tremendous benefit to our residents, in particular our area youth. Further, it could be a revenue generator as a potential location for tournaments (e.g., basketball, volleyball) that draw people to our city for multi-day tournaments. Please include an indoor gymnasium/fieldhouse in your Howelsen 2040 plans.
