Meadow Lane to Close for Culvert Replacement and Upgrade

Four-Week Closure For Critical Stormwater Improvements

Steamboat Springs, Colorado-September 14, 2026-Meadow Lane will be closed to through traffic for approximately four weeks beginning as early as September 21, 2026 as the city replaces and upsizes a culvert beneath the roadway to improve stormwater capacity and reduce the risk of street overtopping and washout.

The drainage infrastructure project will replace the existing culvert that carries flows from the Bear Creek Tributary, a tributary of Walton Creek. The upgraded culverts are intended to improve stormwater flow and limit potential impacts to nearby homes and properties during significant storm events.

The project will begin construction this fall, with the Meadow Lane closure anticipated to begin as early as September 21, 2026. Construction is expected to take approximately four to five weeks, with the full closure of Meadow Lane lasting approximately four weeks.

During the closure, both lanes of Meadow Lane will be closed at the project site to all through vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Detours will be provided, and access to surrounding residences and businesses will be maintained throughout construction.

Additionally, Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) will temporarily modify its bus service during the Meadow Lane closure. Bus stops on Village Drive south of Walton Creek Road and all Meadow Lane stops will not be serviced during construction. The four affected stops are:

• Alpine Ridge/Meadowlark
• Sunray Meadows/Sunburst
• Bear Drive
• Timothy Drive

Passengers who normally use the Meadowlark or Sunray Meadows stops should use Trappeur’s Crossing as an alternate stop. Those who normally use the Bear Drive or Timothy Drive stops should use Whistler Park as an alternate stop. Normal SST bus operations will resume once construction is complete.
