The City of Steamboat Springs is advancing a drainage infrastructure improvement project on Meadow Lane to replace and upsize an existing culvert beneath the roadway in a residential neighborhood. The culvert conveys flows from the Bear Creek Tributary, a tributary of Walton Creek, and current evaluations show the existing structure is undersized for a 100-year storm event — defined as a major storm with a 1% chance of occurring in any given year. The project is intended to reduce the risk of street overtopping and washout while limiting potential impacts to nearby homes and properties during significant storm events.
The project is currently nearing design completion, with the City expecting to advertise the project for bid on June 4. Construction is anticipated to begin this fall, likely in late August or early September, and is expected to last approximately six to eight weeks. Completing the work will require a full closure of Meadow Lane for up to four consecutive weeks, though exact closure dates have not yet been finalized. Access to surrounding properties will be maintained throughout construction, and detours for vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and City bus service will be implemented during the closure period.
