Join us for a free residential chipping event hosted by the City of Steamboat Springs and the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council.

Drop off residential tree debris on May 15 from 8 AM to 3 PM at the Meadows Parking Lot. Accepted materials include small, 4-inch or less diameter trees (no willows), branches, logs and brush (cut away from root mass).

Chips will be used in local composting. No commercial operators please.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado-April 13, 2026-The City of Steamboat Springs is inviting residents to participate in a community survey focused on waste and recycling habits to help guide future programs and services.

“Our goal is to build a system that reflects the needs and values of our community,” said Community Recycling Coordinator Alicia Archibald. “Hearing directly from residents ensures we’re making informed decisions that support both convenience and sustainability.”

The survey is designed to better understand how residents currently manage trash, recycling, and composting, and what additional options they would like to see in the future. Feedback will help inform the city about potential improvements such as expanded recycling access, composting opportunities, and more efficient service models.

Steamboat Springs is also evaluating ways to increase recycling and organic waste diversion, including potential volume-based pricing for curbside collection with small, medium, and large service levels. The city is seeking to better understand how residents handle household waste and what programs would best support the community.

Currently, residents have two curbside collection options—Twin Enviro and SRC Recycling and Refuse—both providing weekly trash and recycling service. Food waste can be composted through See Me Compost, and yard waste can be taken to the Milner Landfill organics area at a reduced rate. Commingled recyclables may be dropped off at no cost at the Milner Landfill recycling dumpster.

Additional local options include the Apex SHIFT Center, which accepts electronics, batteries, bulbs, cardboard, recyclables, and small amounts of trash for varying fees; D & D Metal Recycling for scrap metal and appliances; and Toss Box, which offers a pay-per-use trash compactor at area car washes.
