City Hall/Fire Station Groundbreaking Fires Up Construction

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-June 13, 2023-After final approval from City Council early this month, the new City Hall & Downtown Fire Station project hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, June 20, to officially kick off the start of construction.

“Historically, the west end of town served as the center of the city,” said Deputy City Manager Tom Leeson. “This project transforms and revitalizes the west end of downtown and compliments the energy that is building around everything that is taking place on this end of Lincoln Avenue.”

The new City Hall & Fire Station project will not only transform a two-block section of downtown into a civic campus, but also how the city works together and does business with the community. The municipal campus will redefine municipal services bringing modern technologies and efficiencies for the benefit of residents across the city for decades to come.

The new city hall building, encompassing over 15,000-sq-ft, will be positioned at the corner of 10th and Lincoln Ave. The three-story design features public restrooms and meeting space as well as incorporates department adjacencies for improved efficiency, collaboration, and citizen service.

The new downtown fire station is an 18,000+-sq-ft two-level fire station featuring drive through access from three bays providing flexibility of apparatus placement and response capabilities. A mezzanine training and storage area, along with a hose dry tower connects to the apparatus bay.

The downtown site will also create a civic plaza between the facilities where the community can enjoy the outdoors, gather, and reflect on public art. In addition to municipal functions, the plaza would accommodate public gatherings and other programmed uses.

Davis Partnership is serving as architect of record and Wember is the city’s owner’s representative for the project. FCI Constructors, Inc., a Colorado company with more than 40 years of experience, is the general contractor. A $750,000 Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) grant was awarded to the project.
