Little Toots: New Playground
Consultation has concluded
Ready, Set, PLAY! Exciting things are coming to Little Toots Park this fall as Parks & Recreation will begin removing the existing playground structure to make way for new playground equipment, as well as trail and landscaping improvements in the park. Removal of the existing playground structure will begin on Wednesday, September 8.
“Little Toots has been a community favorite for many years,” said Parks Supervisor Aaron Stafford. “That is why it was important for us to focus on making improvements that would benefit all park users and continue to provide a fun and safe venue for families to bring their children.”
On Wednesday, September 8, crews will begin removing the old structure and start installation prep work. As work begins, the playground will be closed, and the site will be secured with fencing for safety.
In addition, landscape improvements will bring new concrete walkways around the space with benches for rest and viewing as well as connecting to the existing gazebo and the bridge to the library. The city’s goal is not to remove any large shade trees, but some of the smaller mugo pine trees growing in the playground footprint will be taken out due to current playground safety standards.
With this extended closure, the community is encouraged to explore other city parks and playgrounds that they may not be as familiar with. The Community Center and Howelsen Hill Beach playgrounds are fun options for all ages and offer a variety of amenities. Whistler Park is also a great option with large playground structure, slides, plenty of swings and public restroom facilities.
Crews anticipate completing the project by the end of October, pending no major weather or supply chain delays. Additional landscaping around the new structure and sidewalks will be finalized next spring.
Playground manufacturer Little Tikes Commercial provided three different playground options, all offering inclusive play for 2 to 12-year-old children. Community members, including local children, were able to weigh in on their favorite layout options and color schemes via a public survey and the number one choice is being installed.
