The Complete Streets project will deliver significant streetscape and mobility improvements along Mt. Werner Circle in Steamboat Springs. The work includes constructing a new public sidewalk segment between Upper Knoll and Amble with a natural rock retaining wall, rebuilding the existing median in front of Upper Knoll with updated landscaping and irrigation, and installing Steamboat Springs Urban Redevelopment Authority–style pedestrian lighting from Amble to the Steamboat Grand. The lighting scope includes electrical conduit and wiring to connect the lighting to existing transformers.
These improvements are designed to enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and the overall visual character of the corridor. Additional landscaping upgrades will complement the new infrastructure, contributing to a more walkable, inviting, and connected environment within the Mountain Area.
The project was awarded to Native Excavating for $640,511.74 and is funded through the Steamboat Springs Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). Construction is scheduled to begin late May and is expected to last approximately three months, with work sequenced to minimize impacts on residents, visitors, and local businesses. Access to the Upper Knoll parking lot will remain open for the entire construction duration, although lane closures and minor traffic impacts should be expected.
Construction management will be led by the City’s Engineering Department with support from Baseline Engineering. Gates Gooding, SSRA Project Manager and Austen Beck, Civil Engineer, will both be actively involved in project coordination and oversight to ensure successful delivery of improvements that meet community goals and URA objectives.
